Ohio Peace Film Competition 

The Ohio Peace Festival, The Columbus Moving Image Art Review, The Mershon Center for International Security Studies, The OSU Film Studies Program and The Gateway Film Center have come together to create a film festival to inspire people around Ohio to engage with the idea of peace through film. Regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, orientation, or experience as a filmmaker, we want to see films created from all walks of life.

Brief Submission Rules
We ask all filmmakers to consider these three ideas and how they apply to your film:

“It can only be achieved by understanding.”
“Ignorance is a menace to peace”
“The opposite of war is not peace, its creation”

These ideas can be included as a general theme, a line of dialog or text, or even be part of the title of the film. When completing the submission form, make note of how at least one of these ideas influenced your film.

Films should be under 40 minutes in length and must be submitted by May 8th 2016.
A panel of curators from The Ohio Peace Festival and the Columbus Moving Image Art Review will award a first, second, and third place prize during the screening event on June 7th at the Gateway Film Center.
The awards will be award as the following:
Best Film – $500
2nd Best Film – $300
3rd Best Film – $200

Columbus Moving Image Art Review 26 is March 25th

The Columbus Moving Image Art Review (CMIAR) will host its 26th quarterly local moving image screening event on Friday March 25th from 8pm to 9:30pm at Hagerty Hall 180. CMIAR is a screening event for artists residing in Columbus, Ohio and surrounding areas. CMIAR was developed by two local moving image artists Nikki Swift and Matt Swift, who wanted to create a way for the seventh art of film to return to the presentation medium of the cinema house.  Free and open to the public. The Call for Submissions for the Winter Columbus Moving Image Art Review (CMIAR) 2016 is now open. This show is to be on Friday March 25th at 8pm on OSU Campus in Hagerty Hall 180. The deadline for submissions is Friday March 11th 2016. Make sure to visit the submission page to complete the submission form and send your high quality video link (no youtube links) or DVD in at any time up to the deadline. Send in your new or old animations – videos – films, or propose an a/v performance. If it uses light and it moves than it is fair game; video, film, animation, documentary, narrative, experimental, student, and professional. We aim to celebrate what Central Ohio has to offer with no time constraints, no subject constraints. Columbus Moving Image Art Review 25 is Jan. 15th

Columbus Moving Image Art Review – CMIAR 25 – is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 15th, at 8 p.m. in room 180 Hagerty Hall, 1775 College Rd. on Ohio State’s campus.   In 2009 Nicolette and Matt Swift, two local moving image artists, founded Columbus Moving Image Art Review (CMIAR), a quarterly screening event that showcases work from Central Ohio in a curated free-to-submit and free-to-attend exhibition. Since 2009, CMIAR has shown over 300 works by Central Ohio moving image artists, filmmakers, animators, software artists and projection performance artists, and has presented work at numerous festivals. Screenings have shown work from faculty, staff and students at The Ohio State University, Columbus College of Art and Design, members of the Mid-Ohio Filmmakers Association and several independent artists. This event will celebrate CMIAR’s 25th show and will feature moving image work from local submissions, past CMIAR participants and a featured live projection performance.   Free and open to the public. This is the 25th show and we are proud to open the submission call to all long time residents and new filmmakers, animators, and video artists in Central Ohio – as well as all previously participating artists even if you are no longer in Columbus.
